I think you kind of got your diet a little backwards. Collards, mustards, turnip greens, then the other goodies. I can see the vet giving medicine ahead of time.

Heat rocks...I have about 4 or 5, maybe more, all packed away. I wont use them anymore except in emergency. I had a nice savanah monitor once...he didnt get burned(never had burn issues with them), but my savanah knocked over the water bowl one day and I never realized there was a problem with the rock, cause I turn off the heat rock when I clean the cage. One day I did feel the rock and I got shocked by it. This lead to major digestive problems and had to use mineral oil and give him enimas everyday for the last two years of his life. So now for the lousy 10-20 bucks i get a heat pad. If I use it inside a cage...I get some plexi to put it under.

be cool

:The vet wanted to start him on something (an extremely low dose) in case there was indeed a problem with the kidney's since he had the swollen glands in his throat. Since kidney problems can strike quickly, he wanted to get a little jump on things. It was an extremely low dose, so it couldn't hurt him.

:The foods I give Sebastian are mainly collard greens, sweet potato (raw and grated), yellow squash, green beans, cantaloupe, grapes, bananas and then a variety of other things occassionally like mustard greens, turnip greens and strawberries.

:I've heard about the burn issues with some hot rocks, but Sebastian has had one all his life and it is actually his favorite thing in his enclosure. I check it to make sure it is not too hot, and I have luckily never had any issues with it.

:And I give him tons of love and head rubs!! Oh, and he absolutely loves to be rubbed under his chin and along his spikes.
