Please do be warned, though, that if you choose to chat in the ig community, this topic will come up frequently. Other species of herps, too, for that matter.
I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, and we have a large Caribbean immigrant population. Iguanas are sold on the black market as a food item less than 20 miles away from me. There is little the animal control officers can do. The only law being broken is that the "farmers" aren't zoned for livestock, and reptiles are classified as pets, not food animals. So they fall through the cracks.
Sometimes I laugh to keep from crying or putting my fist through a wall. It took me nearly 3 years to find an ig to rescue and keep as my own because they get snatched up for the food trade. :-(
