Authorities are searching for the owner of the green iguana.
The reptile was a green iguana, which is herbivorous and extremely timid. It is believed that somebody dumped it after it had grown too big.
A local housewife called an emergency number Saturday afternoon saying, "There is a giant lizard walking down the road." Firefighters were dispatched to deal with the incident and safely captured the iguana.
Iguanas are about 20 centimeters long when they are born but continue to grow up to 2 meters until they die. (Mainichi Shimbun, July 28, 2002)
