Not to be mean, but people like you are what reminds the rest of us how good we really got it.

:I started developing latex allergy symptoms about 2 years after I started working as a surgical tech, but it took a very long time to figure out what was going on. I was first diagnosed with asthma and the inhalers seemed to keep it under control for several years.
:11 years later, for no apparent reason, I collapsed on the floor during a cataract surgery and had no hearbeat. Even then latex allergy wasn't suspected because back then folks thought you had to get rashes first, before building up to a Type I (anaphylactic) reaction. I never did get rashes and still don't. I was loaded up with steroids, antihistamines, heart and blood pressure meds and continued working. Reactions only occured while in a hospital or clinic setting but I had no proof of what was making me so sick.
:Finally in June 2000 a blood test for latex allergy came out that was fairly accurate (the old was about 52%, and the new is about 67% accurate) and I got my diagnosis, 15 years after my first symptoms. I qualified for long-term disability and became a lady of leisure, except that the animals demand all my time.
:So I'm a good candidate to be an ig slave. :-)
