I found a new vet for Lizard today. :-) I've been taking him to the Cornell Vet School. There are some really good vets there, but it can be really hard to get ahold of someone to ask a question. And the first time I went there I requested to see a specific doctor who I'd heard was very good with reptiles. I ended up seeing a different doctor. :-/ And I called them on Wednesday to ask a couple of questions, and they still haven't gotten back to me. So I was feeling frustrated and took out the Yellow pages, planning to call all the vets listed in there if I had to. Fortunately, I only had to call four.

The vet I talked to on the phone (and I actually talked to the vet, not a receptionist or tech) has treated many iguanas and has a pet iguana herself. She talked to me for a long time on the phone, and seems to know a lot about iguanas. She said most of the time when she sees iguanas, she has to spend lots of time teaching them about iguanas' needs, like UVB and their diet. She sounded very pleased when I told her about Lizard's diet and his lights. Most of the iguanas she sees are really sick because people don't bring them in at all until they're practically dead. I guess Lizard will be a nice change.

Sorry to go on for so long, but I'm pretty excited to have found a good vet for Lizard who is also really accessible! She makes house calls if needed, but I'm going to bring Lizard in to see her. And she takes appointments in the evening, so I can bring him in after work. She also says that she consults other vets for some problems, which is good, because no one knows everything about igs. Oh, and don't worry, Lizard isn't sick. I just want a basic check-up so we'll be familiar with the new vet, and a fecal exam. I hope she's as good as she sounds. :-) Okay, I'm done now... just wanted to share b/c I'm so happy to have found a good vet for him.
