: : He is still a baby...he is about 6-7 pounds and he is just under a year, and is over 3 ft. You can also see what a water monitor looks like in the movie "The Freshman". The so called komodo dragon is actually a water monitor. The get over 50 pounds. I read alot of variation on weight...usually between 75-150 pounds. Their personalities outweigh their troublesome size. Just tell your husband he can hold the leash when you walk the monitor through petco.
: : I do go there here and there, but there is always a pissing contest going on there and alot of egos in the forums. I dont dislike anybody there and they have bee helpful, just alot of bad blood there.

: : : I would love to have a water monitor! I have read much about them, who wouldn't like such a large lizard, but tame! How big is your guy now? My husband thinks I'm crazy. I pointed a water monitor out on an episode of crocodile hunter, and the thing looked like it weighed 50 lbs! My husband said if I had one of those it would kill me! I've got a spot all picked out for an enclosure if I can ever convince him... Are you on the monitor forums too? I lurk there once in a blue moon to see what other's experiences with water monitor are.

: : : : Yep thats him. Dont get me wrong I would never trade my iguana, but the water monitor doesnt have any attitudes like an iguana does.
: : : : For example:
: : : : When my iguana sees me...he looks at me and acts like I should do something for him or go away. Like I'm blocking his basking light or something.
: : : : When my water monitor sees me...he perks his upper body up and starts flicking his tongue like crazy. Plus he doesnt close his eyes when you pet him. He is not skittish, you can come at him slow or quick, and he is very active, unlike my iguana...sleep, eat, rest, rest more, crap, eat, rest, rest, throw things on the floor, rest, goto bed and rest, sleep.
