Phil will actually escape from his cage and 'forage' if his food bowl is even remotely empty. I have come home from class before to see the little monster making his way across the living room floor and into the kitchen.
To keep everyone happy, I fill Phil's bowl in the morning and then handfeed at night(he's still just a little guy, so one bowlful usually does him throughout the day. He eats until he's full, falls asleep in his bowl, wakes up and eats again).
