I had a very bad misconception in my head about iguanas being peaceful when cohabitating with other lizards. I even inquiried at the herp's office about this before I purchased Shnookums. Imagine my surprise when my adorable 6" iguana killed the other three species in the tank and devoured them.
Since the incident (which made me think he enjoys meat), I've occasionally given him mealworms or crickets (once or twice a week with his regular meals). He immediately hunts them down and eats them. Is this a good idea? He's very healthy and very active, but as I understand, reptiles hide illness very well. I've also experienced first-hand (with betta fish) that mealworms can carry parasites and diseases, although I'm not sure if my iguana can contract them as my more vulnerable fish have in the past. Should I keep supplimenting his diet with these "treats" or should I leave them out? Thanx. B.
