at a proper distance and wattage, these bulbs are ideal. I've attatched a link to the Active UV page at herpsupplies.com The recommended distances are shown there.
These bulbs are really worth their cost.
With my own iguana I've seen significant growth and color improvement. His activity levels are up (lol, if not too much, he's been restless lately! =P... but that can be blamed on his search for lots and LOTS of food because the start of his breeding season is coming [he begins to show signs in late august, and full-fledged "rut", including seminal plugs, starts around october]) and he can't be healthier.
One thing i've noticed with the bulb, however, is that it flickers sometimes. I'm not sure what this means, but it hasn't burned out yet. Perhaps it does this kind of like flourescent bulbs do? *shrugs* If it does burn out, you can always send it back and get a brand new one.. they come with a warranty ( http://uvheat.com/UVHeat_Warranty.htm ).
The bulbs have their own page! http://uvheat.com
and here's the costs... http://uvheat.com/economic_s.htm
shows that they're cheaper in the long-run, anyway!
hope this helps!!
