You need to tell us more about the iguana. How large is it? How much tail did he lose? If it is up high on the tail, I would definitely see a vet. You will need to disinfect it and keep an eye for gangrene which can spread up his body (then the vet will need to cut part off). I believe a soak in diluted betadine solution would help.
