PVC is cheap, and so are some types of wood, but if you are going to use wire mesh, make sure you get the rubber coated type, unless you know for certain that he/she won't rub his nose against the metal, because some igs do that, and they really mess their noses up. There are plenty of materials to build with, just put your thinking cap on. If you don't have a lot of money though, pvc is a good option, and it's what I used. It looks great and is very flexible as far as designs go. Also, if you screw up cutting it, it isn't expensive to replace. I just built my igs cage out of pvc and wire mesh a few months ago, and it's awesome, and my iguana loves it.
