i would guess that a daily rinse of the area with a dilute betadine:water solution or a novalsin:water solution ...

i would think you'd want to stay away from any kind of "Ointment" ... just because an ointment-type substance is going to delay the stump from drying out/healing closed ...

also do NOT use peroxide or alcohol ~ YE-OUCH!!

the "mom" in me HAS to say:
"Call her vet and ASK!" ... :)
that's something s/he should've told you ...
