Most common disease in iguanas is due to malnutrition.Particular attention to calcium supplementation is essntial in young growing iguanas because they are prone to calcium deficiencies. The most common mistake is feeding them on exclusive vegetable diet which has low calcium and vitamin mineral supplements.Signs of fibrous osteo-distrophy include general listlessness and enlarged, swollen lower jaw, difficulty in eating and markedly firm, swollen limbs and tail.Unfortunately these desperately ill iguanas appear well fed and chubby and veterinarian care is not often sought until it is too late.
Metabolic bone disease should be treated giving to your igs vegetables rich in calcium like collards, mustards, turnip greens, dandelions, escarole, endive, watercress, hibiscus leaves,...And try to expose them as often as possible to the direct sunlight for vitamin D3.
So as you can see MBD is caused by malnutrition. Its not contagious!!!
