We've got friends who are using an Active bulb and they can't say enough good things about it. The only real concern we've ever heard about them is whether or not they are too powerful. I gather that you've come across that as well, judging by the phrasing of your question. For "room" use I'd say that it's definitely worth the investment. Bear in mind that this is coming from someone who only has 2nd hand info but I honestly haven't heard anything else negative about them.
