I can't find the link anywhere right now, but I can search for it.
Iguana's are one of the animals banned in New York City. Chickens are other farm animals are also banned in NYC.
The state of NY has proposed a bill to the legislature regarding the housing of exotic animals. This includes large lizards, monitors, constrictors over 3-4 feet in length [i think], venemous reptiles, wolves (including hybrids), wild felines (including hybrids), wild animals (racoons, opossum's, etc). They are considered dangerous to the well-being of the people. They are thought to endanger the health of people because of salmonalla, ebola, and other bacteria that may be transmitted (which, by the way, can be very easily controlled by proper hygiene). Also, they are concerned because of the cases of large constrictors killing/injuring people (which occurs in cases where the people were very irresponsible. this can be easily corrected by proper handling and housing. [ie: more than one person handles a snake over 6 feet in length]). They are concerned because of the cases of people being mauled by tigers, lions, etc. (I don't see how someone could own a large wild feline in their home unless they have acres of land to devote to the caging of the animal + if they are properly trained to deal with such large animals, anyway)
The bill would BAN exotic pets listed above (not including those i couldn't think of/remember) and animals that fall into the categories listed above that are owned BEFORE this bill is passed, would require permits. To apply for a permit you would have to send in the age, sex, size, species, and description of the animal(s) you own. I think you would have to sterilize the animals as well.
Rescues, Sanctuaries, and Shelters would have to acquire a permit to house the aforementioned animals as well.
That's all I could think of off of the top of my head. Like I said, I'll try to find and post a link to the actual bill.
Hope this helps!
