1/2 way down the page on this 1st link is a very RED iguana!!!

Galapagos Marine Iguana

In 1798, Captain James Colnett wrote:
"The guanas are small, and of a sooty black, which, if possible, heightens their native ugliness. Indeed, so disgusting is their appearance, that no one on board could be prevailed on, to take them as food."

Indeed, even Darwin himself was much replused by it, calling it "a hideous-looking creature, of a dirty black colour, stupid, and sluggish in its movements."

LOL! beauty *IS* in the eye of the beholder isn't it!?!? personally, i think it shows the igs are pretty darned smart ~ they didn't get eaten up did they?!? (back then any way ...)

and some info on *Land* Iguanas ~
Galapagos Land Iggies

tho Darwin didn't think so, *I* think these guys are *CUTE*!!!

Darwin was not much impressed with the land iguana:
"...they are ugly animals, of a yellowish orange beneath, and of a brownish-red colour above: from their low facial angle they have a singularly stupid appearance."

yeah yeah yeah ... Darwin prob'ly thought barking furballs were highly intelligent ... *giggle* ...

sorry ~ i was out in the heat/humidity doing yard work for toooooooo long today ... Bon.
