First off, thank you everyone for responding, it is so helpful to have somewhere to go for these things so I don't worry myself to death. Ok, here goes:
Flavia: The object in the x-ray was most definitely NOT poop. I saw the poop, and I saw the object. The object is rock size (and shape) and was so dense that it was all white where as the poop was gray. The vet asked if she could have swallowed something metal or a rock because of how dense this was. It could not have been a mass of poop. I'll have to see if I can't take a picture of the x-ray or bring it home or something so I can show you all how obvious the object is. It stuck out plain as day!
And as for igs being smart enough to eat the right food. I'm not sure about that with Spike because on the way up to the vet's office, she ate her own poop. ;) I know what you're saying though and really I think what may have happened is that she was just licking (smelling) something and it stuck to her tongue and so she ate it. I mean, I don't know, I wasn't there, but this is what I'm leaning toward. :)
PE: Spike doesn't free roam, she never has, she is too small and I do not have anywhere close to an ig proof room for her. On 3 (maybe 4) occasions she has escaped her home. How she does this, I still don't know and I'm still trying to locate every little hole I think she could fit through. I think I may have gotten it all sealed up now, but really, she gets out very randomly and for no apparent reason (ie looking for food, water, shelter from heat, etc).
Also, the original reason for the vet visit was to recheck worms from the very first visit (which was purely check up for a new ig). I brought to his attention the hardness in her sides, but I didn't need to say anything because he noticed almost immediately.
iZ's mom: The reason I didn't ask the vet all these questions when I was there was because they hadn't happened yet. I ask questions to the point of annoyance. :) Being so new to this I am very careful with every detail in making sure I know what I'm doing and so I can understand what he's talking about. I just was confused about why she seemed to be alleviated so quickly when really I didn't think it justified.
The laxative is called Laxatone and yeah, its like syrup (Spike quite likes it actually). It is meant as more of a lubricant for the object rather than to stimulate poop. Since she is pooping good (and has always been oddly), we didn't need something to get all the poop out as much has he was concerned about getting the object out so there is no obstruction caused by it. I have another visit this Monday to check if the object has moved.
The poop itself does not seem to be so hard as much as just the object. I think her sides were hard because she was just so full. Perhaps now that she is eating much less and the food has much less substance, she can "catch up". I'm not sure. And like I said to Flavia (and just to reiterate) the object was stark white against the rest of the more subtle grays of her x-ray. Even compared to her bones this thing was just incredibly dense.
Again, thank you all. Spike is eating well (even the baby food) and she is pooping well (nice big round terds) and she has plenty of energy (still squirms like the dickens when its time for the worm medicine). I think she looks good and healthy and so for right now I am hoping for the best. I'm going to see how she does tomorrow and if she seems the same, I'll wait for the vet Monday (seeing as how its only 3 days away). If she was acting sick or abnormally, I would DEFINITELY call, but seeing as how things seem to actually be better, I'll save the call. I just wanted to see what you guys thought of all this.
I am SO sorry for writing so much. I can just really get carried away sometimes. I want to make sure that I'm not being confusing and that I'm clear enough so sometimes I tend to *over* explain things, just a bit. :)
Thanks again,
Shanna
