In Reply to: Upgraded cage, now the *#@$! eats little, poops poorly posted by david hakala on June 30, 2002 at 22:50:07:

But you are treating your Ig as a SKINK!!Iguanas like to climb and they dont need too much floor space. My ig's cage is 7F height and my igs do climb until the last inch of wire. So, in my opinion, you should build a vertical cage.If you keep your IG in a 2 F hight horizontal cage he will be so unhappy that I dont know what will happen to him!!

PS. Iguanas like to poop in the water because in the wild they use to poop in the rivers. They choose to climb and to live in trees which branches are above the rivers.Pooping in the water they keep their environment (or at least the branches where they live) clean.

: I had my 3-foot ig in a vertical cage, 4' H and 2' square. It had a screen-door front, with not much humidity retained (40%). He had two 1x2-foot platforms plus the floor from which to choose. He ate like a pig and scrupulously pooped in the water bowl every day.

: Last week, I built him a horizontal 2x2x4 cage, with acrylic doors, a 2x2 basking platform, lots of floor space, a 2-foot swimming pool and a humidifier that gets the RH up to 70+ percent.

: Now he leaves most of his food untouched and poops on the basking platform - very little.

: Should I patiently wait for him to adapt, or just eat the ungrateful SOB now? ;-)
