: In this picture of Bobbit, his mouth is completely closed, yet his lips look parted and pink. For about three days, I've noticed that Bobbit's lips have been increasingly strange. It's like he is missing part of his lip, or like they've been rubbed off. It's really strange.
: He is still eating and acting mostly normal (do male iguanas ever really act "normal"? :) so I don't think he's sick persay. I am just really stumped as to what could be causing his lips to stay open and to be exposed like this.
: I'm hoping that someone out there has seen this type of thing before and can tell me what it might be.

: Last week, Josh was out of town, so I had the iguanas at my house, which is not where they usually live. Bobbit did okay, but you know how igs don't like change? Bobbit was not happy to be away from his usual surroundings, and as a result, he was pawing at my window all week long trying to get out. I have no idea if that could be what caused it, but his lips seem to be receeding and sore.
: Then, I was thinking that mabye it could be the beginning of MBD, because I've heard that it starts in the mouth area and on the jaw, but he gets regular real sunlight all summer long, and Active UV bulb rays the rest of the year. His diet is good--full of collards, mustard greens, squash, beans, peas, blueberries, and other kinds of things that are on the "good list" of veggies to feed. I don't think it could be diet related.
: The only thing I have recently been adding is the dandelion greens--but he doesn't seem to like them or eat them much anyway.
: Any ideas? I'll take him to the vet, but I just wanted to see what you guys thought. Has this happened to anyone's iguana before?
: I'll post two other pictures below so you can see it from differening angles.
: Thanks for any and all input and ideas,
: Diana
He was repeatedly smacking his face into the mirror on my door and into the window and he had a bloody "nose". I came home to blood all over the room. (the mirror was taken out and I make sure I cover the window now). Anyway, his mouth used to close all the way and because of the scab on his "nose", it lifted the upper lip, so it looks pinkish. It was just starting to close again (after months) and we went away and caged him. He rubbed his nose again, and for the second time the upper "lip" is raised and I see pink. It's not as much as your ig's, but enough that you notice it. So.......could your ig have injured his nose or snout?
