I am by no means an expert, but here's what I think... If you actually everted the hemipenes, it's a male, no matter what the other signs (jowls, femoral pores) indicate. If by saying it looks like it has a hemipenes, yo mean a bulge at the base of the tail, that can indicate male, but it's hard to tell, since igs store fat in the tail.
How can you see ovaries? I was not aware that they are at all visible externally. If the iguana has bulges where you describe my first thought would be that it could be a problem...
: No! I'm not looking for sex. I'm wanting more info on sexing iguanas. I have one that is about 18-19 months old that seems to have conflicting clues as to its sex. It has a longer, more narrow head with a small dewlap and jowl. Its femoral pores are less developed even though it looks as if has a hemipenes. What appears to be the ovaries are at the top of the ig near the base of the tail. I have some photos online if anyone thinks that they can spot check this for me.
