Iguanas of the world . Burgerhart rand . Says so . I have taken in many iguanas that where feed nothing but animal protein . In yet all that I keep track of are doing fine . Unless you have a iguanas that YOU breed or know who breed it came from a farm . All farms feed them animal protein . Everything from pinkies to a product made by Vally Proteins made from things you dont want to know about . Any iguana you hear of that is more then 7 or 8 yeas old was most likely feed animal protein as part of there diet . Because this was what everybody thought they needed . Even the infamous MK used to tell all to use at least 10 percent for animal protein ( she used to say turkey was best for some reason ) as did all the " best " books . Read a 7 year old iguana care book 99 percent of them say the same . Most veterinary books still to this date say that animal protein should be a part of a diet . I can take you to see at least 20 iguanas that where feed all or high amounts of animal protein for the first 1 to 6 years of there life if what you say is true they should all be dead right ? One is 16 thats right 16 years old and in perfect health she sees the vet every six months . All the empirical data points to a lack of fresh water as the number one cause of kidney problems . In fact as with almost every animal in nature a good intake of water will clean the kidneys . Henry lizard lover has some good theory's on this . As for you request for data . Show me one just one study that in fact says animal protein does harm of any kind to the common green iguana . I bet you can't . why do I say that ? Because there is NOT one . It is THEORY not fact .
