Sand isn't a natural part of the rainforest, it's decomposing leaf litter. Not that you'd want that as a substrate, lol! Stick with something that won't mold in high humidity and is easy to clean, like newspaper or repti-carpet.

If you go the repti-carpet route, have a couple of them so you can quickly switch them out for cleaning.
