they *sense* heat differently than mammals do ... it is possible for an ig to sit/lay on something that is way too hot and not realize/feel it until it has caused 3rd degree burns ...

then, there's also the possiblity that the warmth or color of the light will be attractive to the ig and he'll want to go investigate ... igs tend to investigate + explore by licking/tasting things ~ YES!~ that includes licking a hot light bulb ...

and, while i'm on a roll ...
igs taste/lick and EAT things that aren't good for them ... if it fits in their mouth, they go ahead and swallow it, whether or not it's food or not and whether or not it's gonna get stuck and need surgery to come out or not ...

this does *NOT* mean they're dumb by any means!!!!
they learn by exploring and it's the humon's job to make sure they can SAFELY explore ~ (think of having to constantly watch a small humon ~ aka: toddler ~ same thing!) ...

can you compromise by giving them regular, daily roaming time when you can supervise them???
