Vet report on rescued baby iguana

Amazon is quite healthy considering s/he was so crammed into a cage that turning around was impossible. Skin is healthy and no breaks. Spikes are bent but not broken. No parasites were seen in the fecal except such a trace amount of pinworms that it was felt treatment would be worse for the baby than the pinworms. A two month recheck was recommended.

The only problem found is that the first 3 vertebrae of the tail are compressed. No real mobility problems or pain response were seen, so it is felt that with the proper amount of room those little baby discs will spread out on their own, but of course no guarantees can be made. it is possible that s/he will have a stiff and somewhat immobile tail later in life. Again, a repeat xray in 2 months to evaluate the discs will be done.

I am so happy that my little Amazon is healthy, just overjoyed. I hope that a judge will take the vertebral compression seriously enough to levy a decent punishment to the petstore so this kind of thing won't happen there again. It's very sad that you need to almost hope that the vet will find something wrong with your lizard to protect the futures of others that will replace it in the store.

But I'll get off my little soapbox now and go take the branches out of the oven where I've been sterilizing them.
