The proper lady and her... iguana
BY ALEX BROWN
Of The Examiner Staff
She was shuffling down Market Street ...
straining under the weight of the iguana. Safe to say, it wasn't the scene the Financial District lunchtime crowd was expecting, especially considering the nonchalant look on the young woman's face.
But there she was. Carrying the iguana -- light green, scaly, 5-feet-something long -- in both arms, with the creature's head resting on her shoulder.
No one said a word as she walked by. They seemed collectively taken aback. Then, one by one, they began to chuckle. And point. And murmur amongst them about where that woman was heading with such an unusual cargo.
Was there a casting call for a new Bud-wei-ser commercial? Was she heading back to the pet store for a refund? Or was she just taking Iggy for a walk?
Not that she seemed to care. By the calm air about her, you'd swear she was off to a boardroom meeting -- maybe a lunch date.
She left as quickly as she'd arrived, walking in the direction of the Ferry Building. She was, for a day at least, the great San Francisco lunch hour mystery.
