About the soaking dish... is this something that people typically keep in the cage 100% of the time? I mean, do you allow the animal to soak whenever it wants, or do you just take it out and do it at appropriate intervals?

Also (OK, I guess it's kinda two things)... as for shedding, do they like having rough surfaces to scratch/rub themselves on to help get the skin off? I know my turtle does that with her shell when it's peeling...
