: "The release into wild issue: The animal has been in captivity since a very young age, if not captive hatched. It does not possess the skills to survive in the wild. It was released into an area where it is very doubtful it will survive.
: My comments:
: Why did you say that? The iguana was released in Malaysia a tropical country with an ideal climate and environment for igs. There are plenty of wild big adults around. Its not rare to see one 5 or 6 feet adult iguana crossing the streets of Kuala Lumpur! In my building there are big adults iguanas hidden in the trees.

: "That is why it is stupid, irresponsible, and illegal in some countries. Take islands such as Hawaii or Guam. The weather is appropriate for an iguana, and they could feasibly find food without becoming food. BUT - that is what makes it illegal. Introduced species have terrorized lands all over the world, just because some irresponsible person let them go. Hawaii, Guam, Australia, California, and many many more...."
: My comments:
: I agree with you.

: "About pet store iguanas - That is a whole different story. I too have seen many cases of animal ABUSE in pet stores when it pertains to reptiles. This is something we are battling here, and continue to do so. The main problem is the Animal Welfare Act, which specifically states Cold Blooded animals are NOT protected under the statutes of the act. I do not know what the laws are like in your country"
: My comments:
: MY country?? I am Brazilian, Im living in Kuala Lumpur because Ive been posted here (Im a Brazilian diplomat and I work at the Brazilian Embassy in KL).In Brazil they dont sell exotic reptiles in the petshops.Only turtles mainly RES.

Other than that, education is a great way to get your message across. Bring care sheets over to the pet store. Ask them to read them, hand them out to new pet owners, and see if you can help them correct the bad environment".
: My comments:
: "I already did that when I saw the pignosed turtles they are selling in the PETSHOP were covered with fungus.I taught them to put marine salt in the water of the aquarium to avoid the fungus.
: But the problem Mark is the way they look at the iguanas. For them iguanas, crickets or cockroaches are just the same.A limbless iguana or a limbless cricket are equal. If they dont have the courage to exhibit limbless dogs and cats in the petshops windows why they do that with igs?
