First of all AAAAAH!!!! Sorry just had to get that out.
You should have done some research before deciding on getting an iguana.
Crickets, carrots, and lettuce is the worst possible diet!!! Iguana's do not eat any type of animal protein their bodies cant digest it right or something like that. And lettuce has no benefits at all. It has no vitamins, calcium or anything. I feed my iguana collard greens, mustard greens, yellow squash, parsnips, and some fruit. The greens are the most important thing. They should make up about 70 percent of the diet. Fruit should only make up about 10 percent or less. I use fruit for a snack. Light and heat are also very important. You should have a flourescent light that provides uva and uvb. Such as an iguana light 5.0. They are a little pricey about $30 for a 20" one but they are a necessity. Your iguana wont live long without it. He should have a basking area of about 90 degrees on one side of his cage. The other side should be a little cooler, about 75 degrees. Iguanas need to be able to move from a hot area to a cool area to regulate their body temperature. You also need to provide fresh water daily.
As for size. Iguanas get very big very fast!!! They get up to about 6 feet long. You should build a cage that is 6'L x 6'T x 3'D(back to front). That should be big enough to last him a lifetime as long as you let him out to exercise everyday.
You should go to www.anapsid.com that is Melissa Kaplins website. She tells everything their is to know about iguanas and then some. She also has a book called Iguana's for Dummies. You should pick up that or Green Iguanas: The ultimate Iguana Manual by Jeff Swofold III.
Well, I hoped this helped some. This forum is very helpful. This is where I started out with my first ig and everyone is great. You're questions will always get answered.
Good luck with your iguana,
JenniferLM
