That is totally messed up! What *exactly* can my iggy do to the 'public at large' ? **giggles**
A few head bobs and an occasional tail swipe warrants liability insurance!
I know there are no good answers to the problem...but it doesn't hurt for us to keep thinking about it and trying to come up with new ideas.
More than anything i just want animals to be treated fairly...but I know that I don't have the power to make that happen except where I can...
it is frustrating and nervewracking...
: to posters on pet pet stores and people buying/selling/keeping iguanas: (read my other post starting with 05/11/01). I won't go back over the threads below but here is an issue or problem of your thoughts on banning pet stores from selling iguanas, raising the price to $200 on iguanas, having a permit/license, an educational program, etc. With all of this in thought, how would you like a "liability" insurance regulation applied to you as a iguana keeper. Don't laugh ! This has already been acomplished in several cities where iguanas has caused some problems. I fight for the right of ANYONE that wants to keep a non-dangerious animal as a pet. But in some cities/townships the ownership of iguanas are just that. So while we are talking of the problems of the iguana being a throw away pet and so on,so on, this is probably a bigger issue. Some cities have adopted the liability insurance on iguanas like the keeping of pit bulls, rotties, large boids (pythins, boas). This is where you have to post or show that you have a $100,000 liablity insurance policy for the actions of your animals that may/could do harm to the general public. Then almost always the city ends up passing the law that iguanas are not legal to be kept in the city limits. So some of you say how this would effect you that already have iguanas if they pass an ordinace? Easlily. You first claim the grandfather approach where you already have the animal. Then you are hit with a annual permit system that requires you to pay for a permit, register your animal/s with the animal control agency, verify that you have the proper caging of that animal in the form of ecape proof. Etc. Then the city eventually rules out the keeping of iguanas period !
: Sorry. It should of said "the real world of keeping iguanas' as the subject header.
