Well, unless you're going to get an adult, or at least an iguana over the age of one year, you don't have the luxury of choosing the sex. The reason I say this is because unless you bring it to the vet to be probed before you buy it, you cannot tell the sex before it's first birthday usually; even then it's hard sometimes.
I prefer males given the choice though, because I don't have to worry about him becoming eggbound.

: I've been reading up on iguanas and think I'm ready to start looking for one to adopt. Should I get a male, a female, or doesn't it matter?
: I'm wondering if iguanas are like birds and relate better to the opposite sex, or if they don't care as long as you serve up the salads. Also, is it easier to tame one sex than another? Is it true that males are tough to handle during mating season?
