Thank you Amy, Iguana Joe and Bethany....
Nice to see such helpful animal lovers!
I kind of inherited this iguana. My son bought him on a whim a few years ago. Since then he has grown to 22 inches. I don't know if this is good enough in two years time but he seems healthy.
My son moved out in April and I would not let him take the iguana with him. I was afraid he would forget to feed him since I had to remind him to feed him or feed him myself.
We feed him leafy green veggies (I buy him the spring mix) mixed veggies or green beans when we don't have fresh. I also give him Phos-Free Calcium by LM Tropical Magic for all reptiles. And Ive purchased a very large cage (34"X47")with two shelves and two ladders. He has constant access to water. I bought a uva light before coming here, now I know that I need a uvb light.
I am planning on making his cage more like a rain forest so I am planning on purchasing some plants that are safe for him to eat.
Now for the problem I have with him.... I am afraid of him. My daughter and I feed him and care for his cage and he looks at us in a curious way. But we don't take him out because we are afraid. He has never had a bath (please don't slam me on this one... I've just found out that he needed one.) For the time being I've just been placing a very large rubbermaid container in his cage but I don't think he knows exactly what to do with it yet.
I really wish that I could pick him up and hold him but like I said I am so afraid. What do I do? Where do I start? He is really really strong... Ive seen my son almost lose his grip on him.
Any posted help would be great and if someone lives in the Freehold NJ area that could actually come over and teach me... I know thats a long shot but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.
I want the best for him but just don't know how to do it.
Thanks in advance,
Annie
