My darling African Grey had just got done doing a trapeze act from it I still love him (as I'm sure you do your Ig) as much as ever, but our relationship did get a bit on the reserved side for awhile. I've been luck, in that my Ig's are all angel babies and I've never been more than scraped. I read the other posts where everyones saying to go to the doctor, and they're probably right.

Two things though . . .

One. . .be careful how you describe the incident. A couple of years ago, my grey go ahold of my cheek and, fearing that I would leave a scar w/out stiches, I went to PrimaCare. When I told the nurse my parrot bit me she became insistent on calling animal control. I'm serious. . .she was bound and determine that all animal bites had to be reported to animal control. I'd not shed a singled tere over the pain of the bit but when I couldn't logically convince her this was nothing like the typical dog & cat scenario those rules were designed to apply to, I went to pieces and was crying hysterically. Being an open exam room, the doctor must have heard me and came over to see what was going on. Through my tears, I explained the situation. He understood and agreed w/me but actually had to pull rank on this nurse who kept insisting she was going to call animal control. Argh! It still blows me away.

Two. . . "Neosporin" is a wonder drug and, the one w/analgesic is a Godsend! The nature of an Ig cut will make it harder to heal than the average parrot bite. (Ig's bites are like getting cut w/a serated knife. Parrot bites have a cleaner edge, more like getting cut my a dull paring knife.) Even so . . . "Neosporin" is powerful good mojo and something no exotic owner should ever be without. Oh. . .and believe it or not, aspirin or advil or something will actually help the pain a little too.
Good Luck,
Rebecca (and the zoo)

: This is what my "darling baby" did to me today...it hurts...really bad...for all of you out there...iguanas are sometimes kinda...well, weird. Sure he is in mating season, sure hes sick of living in my bathroom, and yes surey that IS my fingernail he bit through!
