Flooring Question

The Petco By me had an Ig for adoption a little while ago. In the main tank with all the babies they had wood chips and I know those are bad but, in the Ig for Adoption's tank they had Alfalfa pellets. Is that a good flooring? I would like to get an Ig and I don't want to make any mistakes. Please tell me What I can do to have a good home for one.
