It's not that they can't eat that stuff, it's just that once people start feeding it, they seem to do it too often, and the iguana gets far too reliant on that type of food, which isn't very healthy for it. If you only feed it to them in small quantities a couple times a week as a snack though, that's fine.

: My igs love bread and rice.If they can eat potatoes (sweet potatoes) why they cannot eat rice and bread??Of course I dont give them ONLY rice and bread, I give bread as a snack and I mix the rice with the vegetables.They really love it!!I have a photo of Godzilla(around 5 or six years old) with the mouth full of rice that I ll try to post here.
