Natural sunlight is the absolute best thing for UVB exposure. I took a reading on my back porch the other day and came up with, if I remember correctly, 250 microwatts/cm2 of UVB. Now, currently there's nothing on the market available to the average consumer that will produce that much UVB radiation so there are really only two things you can do. 1.) Build an outdoor enclosure that the ig can spend the day in and get the greatest possible benefit from actually being outside. 2.) Use a good quality UVB bulb in it's enclosure and make sure that the ig stays on a 12/12 cycle (12 hours on/ 12 hours off)
Calcium/vitamin sprays are pretty much gimmicks that really do nothing that good husbandry won't do. Iguanas do not "absorb" through their skin as other animals do therefor any proported "benefit" from using these things is false. In fact, any artificial D3 supplimentation can be harmful or fatal to an ig if not done so in exacting amounts. Moisture, not necessarily in the form of water but humidity, will do more to promote healthy shedding than any commercial sprays will.
Did the petshop mention anything about salmonella by any chance?
