My friend John works in a pet store, so I gather that he is trying for direct home placement. I will speak to him of the options you recommended. Neither of us are newcomers to herping and I think he will probably have thought of these things and was just looking for takers. Then again, maybe I'm wrong altogether. Best to you and your scaly family ;)
