Hello, my name is Ziggy. I am a sub-adult green iguana. I am really shy, but once I get to know you I know I'll like you. I really love food and will try about everything. I am really curious and love to be talked to.
I have had a very hard life. My first owner did not treat me very well. He housed me in a tiny 20 long aquarium with 3 other iguanas, a heat rock, and no UV lighting. He only fed me a table spoon of dried food a day, which I had to split with my 3 other friends. I was lucky though, a nice lady saw that I was in a bad situation and took me and my friends away from the bad man. she brought us to some people who were willing to give us a helping hand and find us new homes. Unfortunately though, two of my friends were too sick and crossed the rainbow bridge *sniff*. My other friend got a good loving home a few months back. I would really like one too!
Sadly, my lack of good care has caused me some problems. My front legs are really twisted and I find it hard to climb, but I am really stubborn and I try the best I can. I am also missing some fingers. No one really knows how old I am because the poor care might have stunted my growth some. I am sexually mature, and definitely a boy. I'll need a special home where people will understand and love me.
I now am staying with a nice lady who has given me a warm bed to sleep in, plenty of easy things to climb on, and lots of really yummy food. She's giving me vitamins and I get to sit in the sun sometimes and I even have an UV light now. I don’t' have to use a stupid heat rock to stay warm anymore either, yay!
Unfortunately, she cannot keep me forever and can only offer me a place to stay and wants to help me find a new home, a "forever home" she calls it. That sounds really great to me.
She almost found me a home and I was even all ready to move, all my bags were packed you could say. But my new mommy never came to get me and won't even answer the nice lady's phone calls :(.
The biggest problem she has had with finding a "forever home" for me is she says we live in the middle of no where. Somewhere called South Dakota (sounds yukie to me). She says though, now that it's warm and I am fat, strong and happy I should be fine being what she called "shipped" if need be.
If you would like to give me, Ziggy, a second chance and want to give me the love I deserve, please e-mail the nice lady at motzie@newts.org or ccthera@caudata.org. Just put "Ziggy's Home" in the subject blank.
I would really like to thank you for reading my story. If you cannot give me a home please do me a favor, spread the word about proper iguana care so no more pretty baby iguanas end up like me. Thanks again :)
