Not being familiar with outdoor wood sealants I'm thinking either a marine grade polyurethane for it's UV resistant properties or an outdoor latex paint. Polyurethane would be several coats with sandings in between and paint would simply be acceptable coverage. In either case, if you choose a nice warm, sunny day I think acceptable curing time would only be 24 hours but double check that with the pros to make sure.
