I live in the 'boondocks' of Canada ...

...and we have a Wal-Mart close enough. And nearly everything else I had when I lived in a big city of a few million people, (including ignorant 'qualified herp vets' LOL).

Referring to a place, a town where a person's home is no less, in such a manner as the previous post is derogatory, and also prejudiced as to place of residence. It probably wouldn't have occured to you to say "the boodocks of the US"!

Additionally, what we DO have is FRESH AIR and FREINDLY people.... things that improve one's quality of life that are not readily available in a big city. We do have less people - and in my mind this would then make all residents ... SMART! We do not have the pollution, crime, and (warranted) paranoia that comes with life in large cities. I just don't understand why, because I can hear cows in the morning and my daughter's friend raises her own chickens, that somehow makes us less informed and less intelligent. If anything, it makes us more "real" in my mind. I would never go back to raising children a city again. No tree forts!!?!!

I am still waiting to meet these elusive hicks I do hear about from time to time. I guess they only live in the boodocks outside of Canada .. but I suspect they have migrated to cities where they could cope and not have to raise their own food.

I realize you did not intend to be insulting to anyone else, and *this* post is to remind people to please be aware of personal bias. We all have them, and sometimes we need to aware of what ours are. The best approach is to stick to the issue, and if you wish to say something to change someone's thinking, then challenge that thinking in a respectful manner.

I'll hop off my soapbox now ....
Thanks for listening,
Wendy
