There-in lies the beauty with classification. Guaranteed there will be a large percentage of reptile taxonomy that is never agreed upon by the majority of taxonomists. Being that there is no hard set "rules" as to what constitutes a species, sub-species, etc, when you get down to that level, the whole thing is really up to personal opinion. Iguanas have not undergone any major taxonomical revisions in years, and as such the sub-species still exists, just many do not recognize it.
I myself do not consider them to be a sub-species in any way, was just pointing out that it exists.
