Feed iguanas every day--every other day is not enough!

: "Is it ok to feed my Iguana Apples?"

Apples are okay--not great, but not horrible to feed once in a while. They really aren't very nutritious, but the water content is good so they are probably okay to feed sometimes. I would concentrate on more nurtitious vegetables and leafy greens though...a lot more! Collard greens and mustard greens are fed here about THREE times a day! My iguanas love to snack on fresh green collard leaves. Fruit is fed sparingly, but they do love a bit of it atop their salad. Go for more nutrition than apples provide, though. Your iguana needs a lot of vitamins found in vegetables like squashes and in dark leafy greens (NOT lettuce, though. It's mostly water.)

And YES--feed your iguana EVERY day--even when it's an adult. In the wild, I highly doubt they fast every other day. True, they may eat less every few days or so, but I doubt they actually don't eat anything every other day. To only feed every other day seems cruel to me, since they can't ask for food and they are totally dependant upon us for taking care of their needs.

I hope this helps! Keep asking questions and we'll help you all we can! I am glad you care about your iguana and want to know what's best for him.

Diana
