Wanted: herp related learning experiences
I would like to collect some herp related learning experiences. Most herp keepers have stories about un-intentionally killing or almost killing their pet. Research on this subject would be interesting and helpful for the novice herper and to the old sage herper. This information will be compiled and published for the benefit of us all.
Please keep the stories brief and to the point. Names will not be used to avoid embarrassment. Though your state and or country may be useful.
For example this is a story I've heard from several people:
Water turtles kept in a small tank have this innate danger. The water level would become less with evaporation. At just the right water level, if the turtle flips on its back, it can't turn itself up right because the water isn't deep enough. But the water level is too deep for it to push off the bottom to upright itself. So, it eventually tires out and drowns.
