I had to do the hormone tharapy with my first male, SJ. I really had no other choice. *I* could handle him OK, but SJ thought of me as his "mate" I guess, and would really go nuts trying to attack my boyfriend. He once chased my boyfriend all the way down the hall of our house! (SJ was 6 foot and 15 lbs, so when he charged, you backed off!) I once came home to a note telling me that SJ was in the bedroom, and it was either the lizard or the boyfriend! Hormone treatment calmed him down alot, though. He ws still a handfull, but my boyfriend was no longer in fear of his life...

At the time we went through this with SJ, my vet told me there was no information on long term effects of using this therapy. I did not like that, but I really felt I had no choice, as I did not want to give up on SJ either... You might want to ask your vet if there are now studies on long term effects of this treatment.

hormone therapy... Our vet suggested trying this if Sleestack got too much for us to handle. So far, I think I can deal with him, although he is showing signs of getting fairly confident, head bobbing at me all the time now. He is also growing and gaining weight like crazy suddenly. If I can handle him through the next 2 breeding seasons, then I don't think there will be too many more surprises. (I think he is about 4 years old so we've made it through 2 or 3 already)

: Anyway back to the hormone therapy, if your ig responds well to this, you can keep up with this option, or get him neutered. I think if he doesn't change much with the therapy, he may not change after the operation either. My vet was saying they are studying this a lot now and it is better to get these things done earlier before neural pathways are set, establishing behavior patterns that cannot be broken. He said, sometimes the operation has no effect whatsoever. The problem is, why get it when they are young and are not hard to deal with? (and may never be) People wait until there is a problem and sometimes by then it is too late. The decision is up to you. I thought this was all very interesting. My last male was never a problem as long as he could mate with inanimate objects. Sleestack seems like he will never do this. (which worries me some)
