: The generally accepted rule of thumb for iguanas (and most other lizards) is to have an enclosure that it's TWICE the animal's Total Length.
: So for your 4.5 foot iggy, the ideal enclosure would be 6 to 8 feet long, at least 4 to 5 feet in width (or depth, whichever way u look at it), and at least 6 feet tall.
: This may be intimidating to you, but that's what should be done to properly house such a large lizard.
: Do keep in mind that the female will reach another 12 inches or so in length. This also means that making an enclosure that will last in the long run is to be considered. It iwll save u money and time, trust me.
: So an enclosure 6'L, 4'W, and at least 6'H is the MINIMUN u can go for an iguana that size.
: As for being a good breeder, sure, but wait 'til the next breeding season possibly. The animal has to be given time to adjust to its new home, and to you!
: Do keep in mind that males can be very aggressive during mating, and injuries may take place. So if u want to breed the lil' gal, keep an eye on her.
: Don't think that starting with a large ig is not a good choice. Smaller igs grow very fast, and besides u'd need a cage that size anyways right?
: So why not start on the right foot and forget about it in the future? Go big, stay big, and u wont have to build a larger enclsure in the future.
: My ig's enclosure was 8'x8'x8' right from the start! Made him happy, made me happy to not worry about bulding a second one.
: If u have anymore Q's, just ask.
: Good luck, and keep us posted!
