The plus side:

Small to medium, largest reach just about 4 feet.
Smart as a whip.
Hardy.
80% veggie diet, 20% protein. Varied diet makes it easier to feed...sometimes...
Known to live for 20 years, possibly more.
Similar care requirements as green iguanas.

The minus side:

Sharper, nastier teeth than the green cousins.
Attitude issues only a mother can understand... but can be tames with love and patience.
Not the prettiest of all iguanas, tohugh males look great during mating season.
If it's your first reptile, be aware that it won't cuddle or tame down so easily. If that's what you want, get a chinese or australian water dragon, green iguanas, desert iguanas (they're real sweeties) or bearded dragons.
