HELP! SICK IGUANA! COULD IT BE STRAWBERRIES?

[ Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ The Iguana & Water Dragon Forum ] [ FAQ ]

Posted by Jim Ryan on February 22, 1999 at 14:24:01:

My green iguana, who has been in perfect health for 4 years,
recently developed a significant swelling under the left side of his jaw,
right under that large round patch. It seemed to appear right
after I fed him the strawberries my girlfriend and I had
been sharing on Valentine's.

I assumed it was an allergic reaction, and have been
waiting for it to dissapate. However, it has now been
4 days, and it's pretty much the same. I called a local
pet store today, and the person I spoke to asked me if I
fed him the strawberry tops (the leaves). I had. He seemed to
remember reading somewhere that iguanas can have an
allergic reaction to them.

Has anyone experienced or heard of this? I am financially
challenged right now, so taking him to the vet (especially if there's
nothing that could be done for him)would really be rather
difficult.

He still has a good appetite, but appears a little more
lethargic than normal.

Suggestions? Should I bite the bullet and incur the vet
expences?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, especially via
e-mail (jaymes@mindspring.com). Thanks.
