waterproofing an enclosure

I just moved my iguanas to a larger enclosure built by friends but I forgot to check on sealing it. Can I do this (I know to move them first) Is Thompsons water seal okay? Or should I just leave alone for some say sealing is poisonous but I don't know. When I clean I use listerine which the vet said is the best disenfectant.
