: first of all, i *do*not* want to start a mean-spirited debate here!!! so **NO** flaming and attacking!!! i'd like to discuss this like well-mannered adults .....
: please go and read the article at Ig-Den about oxalic acids ....
: *briefly*, it says: "Once again we are faced with thoughts that have not been concluded 100%. The oxalic acid debate continues in the field of Nutrition every day. Several books explain that it binds with the Ca before it can be used and others state other wise. However several things have been clear. Iguanas being fed diets low in Oxalic acid often suffer other problems such as Calcium Crystals in the muscles and Kidney stones. Since Oxalic acid is the main source that helps carry EXCESS Calcium away through feces we find that High Calcium amounts will need to bind with FAT which it absorbed into the blood and filtered by the kidneys when we are severely lacking of Oxalic Acid containing food."
: now, i have always gone with the popular belief that oxalic acids are *bad* without really understanding *WHY* ... Kevin has done much research to not only DISprove that, but to prove they are good (in *correct/balanced* amounts) ....
: this makes sense to me .... i am wondering if anyone knows of any research/references that can back up the opposite theory (ie: that oxalic acids are bad) ...... ??????
: in case my links don't work here's the addys:

Dan and I went right over to the diet and read it. It seems as though we are in the middle of the two diets but it did make me think and Dan is still correlating the facts.I am doubly interested because BD aalso eat more fruit and veggies as they get older, and Kaplans iet is the no standard for them also.I have a bd that is very ill and several of the things wrong with him are desribed in the article.Makes me wonder.I've e-mailed several friends this topic to get their point of view and will talk to my vet Mon also.
