If he doesn't get heat and sun, his food will not digest and eventually he can die from it, or he can develop MBD from not being able to utilize the calcium in his food.

I bought him with no prior knowledge of Iguana care. I asked the man at the pet store what to feed him, and he told me they've been feeding them lettece. So, believeing him, I've been feeding hm lettece, only to read an Iguana care sheet last week that stated lettece is no good for them. I tried switching him to collard greens, carrots, mustard greens, and parsley, but he will not eat it. I tried mixing them with some lettece, but all he did was eat the lettece. I need help despritly with this, because I am at a loss for ideas on how to make other food besides lettece more appealing! : Stop the lettuce. It has NO nutrients whatsoever for your ig. Collard greens are very good, dandelion greens, mustard greens, endive, escarole, parsnips, green beans, sugar snap peas, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, figs, cantaloupe, berries, (fruit l0 percent of diet). : As a treat during hot weather, you can give a romaine leaf once in a while. Rule of thumb is -- nothing with lettuce in its name is good. : As long as you keep offering your ig the lettuce in with the rest of his food, he will find it and you'll have a hard time breaking him of the habit. : My ig gets finicky every so often. : Also, you need a warming light (a household bulb in a reflector is okay) and if you can't get him in REAL sunshine (if it's warm enough), get a 5.0 UVB fluorescent.
