doesn't let the skin "breathe" ... oil (or a+d ointment like i used to use!) will soften the stuck shed but doesn't let the new growth underneath breathe and seems to actually cause it to be more stuck in the long run (cuz the new growth underneath stops growing which stops the signals to the old layer to dry up + fall off) ...
